Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “The Chapel Gallery is holding some fantastic events to get 2015 off to a great start so come along and enjoy the imaginative works on offer.”
Starting on Wednesday 7 January and running until Saturday 28 February, the gallery will be hosting Taking Tea, a touring exhibition of ceramic teapots provided by Aberystwyth University.
This is an exhibition of unique ceramics tea pots from an archive collection, that showcases design and surface treatment while also delving into the history of tea. Leading to a time when tea became so popular that it became the drink of the masses, and subsequently teapots and teasets became domestic goods that were designed around fashionable styles of the time.
On Saturday 10 January between 10am and 4pm, the gallery will be hosting a free tea tasting event so visitors can enjoy exotic teas from around the world. This will then launch seven weeks of speciality teas in the cafe, starting with a spicy winter warmer.
Running alongside the Taking Tea showcase, the Chapel Gallery invites you into The Curious World of Becky Adams, an exhibition opening its doors on Saturday 10 January and finishing on Saturday 7 March. Becky’s work looks to mix text and textile, an interest formed by her studies in English literature and fine art.
Discover an assortment of intimate stories brought to life through Becky’s use of stitching, vintage fabric and antique ephemera. Free creative activities are being provided for families, school and community groups to be creative and enjoy this exhibition. A special free event will be taking place on the opening day where families can create their own collages.
