West Lancashire Borough Council is making Ruff Wood and St Helens Road Park even nicer places to visit.
A total of £35,000 has been allocated for improvements at the two attractions with funding raised by the Council through developer contributions from nearby housing development sites.
To add to this a further £40,000 has been allocated towards the development of two new bowling greens on playing fields adjacent to Ormskirk Cricket Club. Existing match funding for this project is available from previous developer contributions.
Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Health and Leisure, said: “These improvements are great news for the many people who regularly visit St Helens Road Park and Ruff Wood. I am sure the bowling greens will also prove a popular attraction once they are completed.”
The project for Ruff Wood will open up three principal access points into this beauty spot as well as creating new footpaths, seating and signage. This recent allocation of funding will co-ordinate with an existing allocation of £10,000 together with anticipated grant funding for disability access.
In St Helens Road Park the money will be spent on new shrub beds and planting to compliment the impressive displays that are already there. It will also help with remodelling part of the park to enhance the setting to the recently refurbished Victorian water fountain.
Councillor Martin Forshaw, portfolio holder for planning and development, said: “I am very pleased that the money we have been able to get through planning agreements with developers will be used to benefit the community.”
