The issue of speeding on Cottage Lane has been looked at by Lancashire Constabulary and has been the subject of a number of public meetings as well as meetings with various partners of the road safety partnership.
Edward McCarthy Conservative Candidate for Knowsley ward said: “Lancashire County Council are looking at placing further speed calming measures on the road, 20 mph road markings are already in place but people continue to drive too fast. I believe the Community Roadwatch Team are looking at conducting risk assessment either side of Cottage Lane in which there is a 40 mph zone leading out. If this risk assessment is carried out, then speed gun work may well take place. Issues of cars riding on pavement has also been discussed and the advice has been given to phone this in on the 101 number if this is seen.”
Edward says “I fully support residents’ with this campaign. I appreciate residents taking part in the Council campaign by placing signs outside their homes. There have been many meetings over recent years about this, it is time for action. There are already a number of 20mph road markings and signs designed to reduce the speed of traffic. I would like the idea of traffic calming to be looked into, would chicanes or speed bumps be a consideration?."
Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner Conservative candidate Andrew Pratt said “This a busy residential road and I have personally visited Cottage lane to see for myself the issues. It is narrow, there is a school nearby and a children's playground on Cottage Lane itself. The 20 mph signs have been in place for a while and do not seem to have reduced the speed of the traffic significantly. A re-think is needed to make this a safe road for everyone'.
