David Meadows, the Conservative Borough Council candidate for Scott Ward, has called for action over a notorious 'rat run'.
David is calling on the police to crack down on speeding motorists using Heskin Lane, Grimshaw Lane and Marians Drive as a way of dodging the traffic lights on the Five Ways Southport Road/County Road junction.
It comes after David was approached by residents concerned about the issue.
David said: "As a local resident of nearby Yew Tree Road and a Governor of West End School on Grimshaw Lane, I fully support residents' concerns on this important issue.
"I understand that some work has been done to improve the traffic lights system at the Five Ways but it hasn't made much difference. Cars still speed down Heskin Lane, Marians Drive and Grimshaw Lane, past West End School, day and night and it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or worse.
"I am calling on Ormskirk Police to crack down on speeding motorists along these routes and will also be lobbying the County Council to see what measures can be put in place to make our roads safer."
