Ormskirk’s popular Chapel Gallery looks set to become a landmark cultural destination for the North West after receiving a £127,933 Arts Council England grant.
The money will enable staff at the Gallery, run by West Lancashire Borough Council, to develop a first-floor exhibition and events space and effectively double the highly impressive range of activities currently provided.
The scheme will include a lift so the new exhibition space will be fully accessible and a new main entrance to make the front of the building much more eye-catching. This will feature bespoke glass windows, developed by artist Jo Vincent working with Barnardo’s Lancashire Young Carers.
While this is an impressive development in its own right, the Gallery has even more exciting plans to further develop the first floor exhibition space so it can host larger high profile touring shows. This will attract even more visitors to Ormskirk and assist with its cultural regeneration. The popular annual events programme, which already includes a wide range of exciting arts activities for people of all ages, will also be improved.
The Chapel Gallery is family friendly and provides something for everyone to enjoy, with free activities taking place during each exhibition, the Creative Space is available on Saturday for families to get creative together.
